Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice of energy healing. It is a method of relaxation and stress reduction. When the body is tired or under stress, it is more likely to succumb to illness or disease. By helping the body to relax, Reiki may aid the body’s ability to heal itself. Through the channeling of the Universal Life Force Energy, Reiki may aid in all levels of healing: physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual. Reiki does not interfere with traditional medical treatments that you may be receiving. If you choose to use Reiki to aid in the healing process, you should continue to follow your physician's instructions and guidance. Because Reiki is the Universal Life Force Energy, it cannot cause harm; however, it may enhance the effectiveness of treatments you currently use. When receiving Reiki treatments, the need for medications may decrease. Let your doctor know when you are receiving Reiki, so he or she can monitor your progress.
Reiki is pure energy. It can transcend both time and space. A practitioner with Reiki Level II attunements has the ability to send Reiki to a person anywhere at any time by using the Distance Symbol, through a similar process as with a hands-on session. Receiving Reiki in a distance session has the same beneficial effects as a hands-on treatment, and has the added benefit of being able to choose time and place that best suits your needs.
When receiving Reiki from a distance, the practitioner will schedule a time with you that will suit your personal needs. You may choose to receive Reiki while in a quiet, relaxed space, or at a time when you may be experiencing high levels of stress. You do not have to be an active participant or even conscious to receive the benefits, your practitioner will do all the work.
Individual experiences with Reiki may vary. You may experience a sense of calm, deep relaxation, or possibly an increase in your energy levels. The effects may be subtle or intense. Whatever the physical sensation may be, Reiki is working on all levels of your being.
